Situated in Hamburg’s HafenCity, “Roots” sets a new standard for sustainable architecture. This 20-storey hybrid structure, with its wood and concrete framework, reflects the growing trend for resource-conscious building practices.
Sustainability is key in every aspect, from the choice of materials to the luxurious interiors. Kaldewei’s 126 Conoduo bathtubs, designed by Sottsass Associati, are a perfect fit. Made from recyclable steel and glass, they embody the building’s commitment to luxury sustainability. Known for their elegant design, durability, and ergonomic functionality, these bathtubs provide an exceptional bathing experience while contributing to the project’s eco-conscious ethos.
Designed by Störmer, Murphy and Partners and realised by Garbe Immobilien-Projekte GmbH, “Roots” is not only Germany’s tallest wooden building but also a symbol of eco-friendly innovation. A vision for sustainable urban living, the building boasts a gross floor area of 20,600 m², offering 126 residential units, office space, and exhibition rooms for the German Wildlife Foundation. Its extensive use of wood significantly reduces its carbon footprint, demonstrating how ecological responsibility and high-end design can coexist.
Kasimir Altzweig, architect and co-owner of Störmer, Murphy and Partners, notes, “The material choice is crucial to ensuring long-lasting sustainability in architecture.” By integrating Kaldewei’s innovative, recyclable products, “Roots” showcases how luxury and environmental consciousness can harmonise.
Completed in September 2024, “Roots” has already become a landmark in HafenCity, inspiring a future where sustainable construction is the norm, not the exception. Through its integration of advanced, durable materials like Kaldewei, it paves the way for a greener, more innovative future in urban architecture.
