At Clerkenwell Design Week 2023, Ideal Standard unveiled a plethora of new ranges at its London Design and Specification Centre (LDSC), including additions to Atelier Collections such as the new Solos range.

Launching in October 2023, this year’s highlight was the minimalist Solos range characterised by its sleek lines and defined edges. Part of the design-led Atelier Collections, the visually-striking collection features basin and fitting, as well as a range of showering solutions.

As well as exploring the latest products, visitors were also able to take part in a drop-in pottery workshop with London based ceramics studio, Social Pottery, and contributed to the creation of a ceramic tile display, between 2-4 pm on Wednesday 24th May.

Yiota Toumba, senior designer at Ideal Standard, said: “Clerkenwell is one of the most important design events of the calendar.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase our new solutions, as well as highlight how we are integrating sustainability into products with ranges like Alu+. We’re also excited to discuss our new ESG report, as well as how sustainability is influencing the future of design.

More news from Ideal Standard

Ideal Standard has launched its new Gusto tap range, designed specifically for kitchens. Gusto marks Ideal Standard’s latest expansion into the kitchen sector, offering a versatile, practical and premium solution to its growing portfolio.

The Gusto collection has been developed and designed with immense attention to detail, supported by over 100 years of knowledge and innovation in brassware, which has placed Ideal Standard firmly at the forefront of the bathroom and washroom sector. These new taps offer a striking Italian aesthetic – provided by design powerhouse Palomba Serafini Associati (PS+A) and its Founder and Chief Design Officer of Ideal Standard Roberto Palomba – helping to create a solution which perfectly complements contemporary kitchens.

The range is also available in Ideal Standard’s bespoke finishes and PVD (physical vapour deposition) colour options including chrome, silver storm, brushed gold, magnetic grey and brushed copper, enabling it to pair perfectly with a variety of colour palettes as well as offering enhanced protection from everyday wear and tear.

German-engineered and manufactured in Europe, the collection is built to last with its FirmaFlow® cartridges capable of hundreds of thousands of use cycles. Installation has also been considered when it comes to Gusto, with the entire range featuring EasyFix+ fixations, which are up to 50% faster to install than standard fittings.

The innovation doesn’t stop at installation though, as Gusto is packed with sustainable technology, such as BlueStart®, which cleverly dispenses only cold water when the tap is opened in the central position, resulting in energy savings of up to 50% and preventing scalding for a cost-efficient, safer mixer. Additionally, the IMX models feature an integrated soap dispenser, helping create a neater kitchen worksurface, while making it simpler to clean hands, which is all important for food preparation.

Speaking on the range, Stacey Seagrave, Senior PM of Non-Residential Fittings at Ideal Standard, said: “We are really excited for our Gusto launch, as it is a prime example of what we can offer the kitchen sector, combining some of our most innovative technology with the design prowess of Roberto Palomba.

“The extensive range offers something for everyone and, with the variety of colours on offer can add an extra flair to the kitchen as well as reassurances on reliability and practicality.”

Offering even more flexibility, Gusto is available in a number of elegant one-hole, two-hole and exposed models, including Gusto Square, Gusto Round, Gusto IMX and Gusto Semi-Pro, all of which feature pull-down and pull-out options as well as dual spray modes. These variations let users easily wash and clean plates and cookware, switching between regular water flows and spray action at the press of a button.

Hygiene has become increasingly important during the last few years, so when KEUCO developed their IXMO Sensor series of touchless taps they included a number of additional benefits that ensured the product was easy to clean and had a reduced flow rate, making it more sustainable too.

Flow rate is set at 5 l/p/m but is adjustable, with a flow time of one second to a maximum of 10 seconds until switch-off, enabling economical and resource-saving water consumption. The water temperature is adjusted via a small lever on the back of the free-standing fitting model. If permanent temperature control is not desired (for example in some public areas), the adjustment pin can be removed after the initial setting. A special blanking plug can be fitted to cover the access. For the wall-mounted fitting, the temperature is adjusted in the under-sink box, under the washbasin.

The IXMO Sensor taps are extremely versatile, they can be combined with a wide range of washbasin styles. They are available in chrome plated or matt black; as either a freestanding or wall-mounted variant. They have dual-feed fittings but are suitable for use as a single feed with blended water delivered from a TMV.

The taps have a ‘cleaning stop’ function, by covering the sensor for several seconds prevents the tap from flowing for 180s enabling the product and surrounding basin, mirror, and other surface areas to be cleaned effectively.

All the mixers have a range of programmable functions including cleaning stop; automatic flushing; adjustable detection zone and adjustable run-on time following use. The functions can be set manually or via an app. when fitted in combination with the IXMO Bluetooth receiver (optional), however, this is only possible to install with the mains powered fittings.

Both the surface and wall-mounted options can be mains powered, but the free-standing option is the only model which can be supplied as both battery or mains powered. The battery is a 6V CRP2 lithium-ion type which has an approximate lifespan of 3 years or 200,000 uses. The battery housing is to be fixed to the wall underneath the basin and is easy to source and replace. This combination of intelligent technology and elegant design make these taps perfect for a variety of locations within the hospitality, hotel and even healthcare sector.

Various decisions need to be taken before buying bathroom taps as the variety of ranges is wide. They differ mainly in design, function, and price, however, aspects such as durability and the economical usage of water and energy are becoming increasingly important. In the following article, Duravit explains how its latest options can accommodate today’s preferences and needs.

Timelessly modern versatility of design

Decisions on the installation of a new bathroom are primarily based on aesthetics, but it is worth noting that a bathroom tends to remain for around 15 years. Modern design is deeply rooted in Duravit’s DNA – product management, the internal development team, an international supplier network as well as external designers such as Philippe Starck, Kurt Merki Jr., Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez, and Bertrand Lejoly collaborate to develop taps and shower sprays. Duravit offers a wide range of design variants for differing styles and holistic bathroom design. There is something for every budget, at a consistently high design quality, and with the durable, easy-to-clean surface options Chrome and Black Matt.

Tap applications for the whole bathroom

Duravit offers single-lever mixers in a range of sizes (S–XL) with an optimum height for all washbasins, from handrinse basins through washbowls. As a complete bathroom supplier, Duravit aspires to offer something for every part of the bathroom: from the washbasin through the shower and bathtub, as surface-mounted and flush-mounted versions.

The Duravit BlueBox®, a universal installation system for a range of tap designs (lever mixers or thermostats), is used for concealed installation. This allows the design decision to be taken even after the basic set has been installed.

Matching range of shower sprays

Shower sprays are the perfect addition in every area – whether in the shower or on the bathtub. Duravit’s optimized range of shower sprays offers something for everyone. Hand showers and showerheads are available from a range of price points and feature different spray modes and surfaces. Functions such as EasyClean for ease of cleaning or the Click! technology for changing spray mode at the push of a button enhance convenience and comfort. A range of designs, from the classic, wide-diameter hand shower through the minimalistic hand shower wand with a cylindrical or square design also guarantee that the optics will be just perfect.

Duravit tap guide

As practical all-in-one-solutions, the shower systems work as a single-lever or thermostat variant and are ideal for renovation work as they do not require complex in-wall work.

Comfortable operation

Ergonomically designed handles that feel pleasant in the hand are a key feature in designing faucets that are comfortable and easy to use. This enables water quantity and temperature to be set exactly.

Thermostat faucets for the shower and bathtub are available as an alternative to single-lever mixers: the advantage of these is that they can be set to the desired temperature, which ensures constant water temperature and irons out fluctuations in pressure.

Sustainable economy functions

The Duravit taps and shower sprays use intelligent technologies to offer concrete economic benefits. In the centre position, energy-saving washbasin faucets with a FreshStart function only produce cold water to start with. Hot water is only added when the handle is deliberately moved to the left. This reduces energy requirements and lowers energy costs and CO2 emissions as hot water is only used in situations where it is needed. Cold water is perfectly adequate for washing hands, cleaning teeth, and watering plants.

With a flow rate of 5.5 l/minute, all Duravit washbasin taps are sparing in their consumption of hot water and energy. The MinusFlow taps are more sparing still, with a flow rate limited to 3.5 l/minute. The AirPlus technology additionally adds air to the water jet, creating a gentle, voluminous stream.

There are also enormous potential savings for water and energy especially when it comes to showering: Compared to standard showers, Duravit MinusFlow hand showers have a reduced flow rate of up to 40%, rising to as much as 60% on the showerheads (MinusFlow showerheads = 9 L/minute, standard hand showers 15 l/minute, standard showerheads 25 l/minute).

Quality and guarantee

Duravit uses high-quality materials for all taps and reliable ceramic cartridges for a long service life. Before launch, the taps are subjected to stringent tests such as washing comfort and splashing behaviour. This guarantees the Duravit Best Match: A configurator developed in-house by Duravit that helps users find the best combination of taps and ceramics for any washing area: www.duravit.com/bestmatch Duravit offers a voluntary five-year guarantee on all taps and shower sprays. Spare parts are kept available for a whole 15 years after each product line is discontinued.
