From nature-inspired design to spa-like luxury, Laminam rounds up the top five bathroom surface trends for 2025.

1. Cladded Basins and Vanity Units

Inspired by five-star hotel luxury, cladded vanity units have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially in en-suite bathrooms. This trend will become even more prominent in 2025 as homeowners look to recreate the spa-style sanctuary of a favourite holiday or luxury break at home.

Twin basins also make a stunning statement within a bathroom scheme, especially when clad in a stone surface such as porcelain. Durable and hardwearing, it also creates a sleek and seamless look that flows effortlessly when paired with the same surface for countertops, splashbacks, showers, wall cladding and flooring. Porcelain is an ideal material for bathrooms, as it is non-porous, so it doesn’t require sealing. It is also water resistant; it is stain, scratch, moisture, and humidity resistant. The stunning marble effect of seamless porcelain surfaces will also bring a luxe look to any bathroom or en-suite, and for 2025, let the material take centre stage with fresh or warm whites with delicate veining or grounding earthy tones to bring a sense of the outside in.

2. Bookmatched Surfaces

Laminam’s porcelain is perfect for making a statement in the bathroom. The large-format slabs can be laid horizontally or vertically for walls and floors, and 2025 will see a rise in the use of bookmatched patterns for large areas such as behind a freestanding bath, as a basin splashback or in a large walk-in shower area. Bookmatching allows for seamless continuity with no visible joins, which has the added benefit of being impervious to germs and bacteria while making cleaning easier thanks to fewer grout lines. The distinctive and eye-catching look is created by adjoining two or more slabs of stone cut from the same block right next to each other for a striking mirror-image effect. Laminam has over 20 designs that can be bookmatched.

3. Nature Inspired Spaces

With over 291,000 #biophilicdesign posts on Instagram, the trend for bringing the outside in looks set to stay for 2025. There are so many benefits to creating a natural and organic look and feel within the home – it helps to create a sense of calm and mindfulness, connecting us to nature and providing a welcome retreat from the hectic world outside. Adding plenty of potted and hanging plants also improves air purification, absorbing excess moisture and balancing humidity, which is particularly important for bathrooms and wet rooms.

4. Open-Plan Bathrooms

One of the biggest trends for 2025 will be opening up the bathroom, removing shower doors and creating a seamless and open wet room on its own or within a bathroom or en-suite, achieving a spacious and airy feel. Sleek and modern in aesthetics, the effect is also incredibly functional, especially when Laminam’s porcelain slabs are used for walls and flooring. With no visible joins, the room is easy to clean and ultra-hygienic, with no grout lines for germs and bacteria to hide in.

5. Minimal Luxury

Creating a calming and spa-like experience at home with minimal luxury means paring back to the essentials and ensuring these essentials are of the highest quality. Think bathrooms with a freestanding sculptural-shaped bath, concealed shower fixings, wall-mounted basin taps that leave the countertop clear and plenty of storage to hide everything from view. This bathroom style also lets the surfaces sing, with porcelain’s marble effects and authentic Italian look taking centre stage.

In 2020, Cosentino introduced Hybriq+ technology to its Silestone ranges, reflecting a growing consumer interest in sustainability. It recently developed Silestone XM with a maximum crystalline silica content of 10%. Silestone by Cosentino combines an innovative production process, which drastically reduces its content of crystalline silica, with high visual appeal—the end result being sustainable and high-performing mineral surfaces.

Sustainable luxury is more than a short-lived trend, and materials like Silestone Le Chic Boheme, which combine durability with timeless design, are essential for creating hardwearing, beautiful spaces that maintain their aesthetic appeal for years to come.

Dark, earthy hues

Neutrals out, drama in; biophilic colours come to the fore in 2025, particularly darker hues to create luxurious, moody interiors. Cosentino’s surfaces take inspiration from the natural world, mimicking the colours and textures to create timeless surface design, from rich greens to alluring, veined charcoals.

Katie Parry Stone, retail manager at Cosentino UK, comments: “Deep, natural tones that induce a sense of well-being and calm into interiors have seen a surge in popularity, particularly within kitchen and bathroom design. This shift toward earthy tones, as opposed to the minimalist, clinical white homes that were previously popular, can be incredibly powerful in conveying calm and tranquillity in a space. Deep, dark hues are also incredibly effective when designing a cosy space. Shades like Chateau Brown from our recent Silestone XM collection, Le Chic Boheme, and Bohemian Flame from Le Chic by Silestone, are rich and versatile shades ideal for adding warmth as accent colours, or to imbue a space with a cosy atmosphere when used throughout the wider scheme.”

Seamless spaces

From free-flowing islands to invisible sinks, seamless integration is very much on the radar for 2025.Tasteful, high performing and versatile, Cosentino’s surfaces are available across a range of applications, including cladding, flooring and worktops, minimising interruption and enhancing the illusion of space.

Heavy texture

From fluting to rich veining, texture in the home and in hospitality is a steadfast trend for 2025. Anticipate experimentations with colour, patterns and thickness for greater depth and visual interest anywhere from the home to bars, restaurants and hotel where it creates striking and unexpected design.

As one of the first to incorporate fluted titles to its portfolio, Cosentino is constantly developing fresh approaches to texture, with its most recent innovation, Dekton Ukiyo, in collaboration with designer Claudia Afshar.

“Fluted designs are proving popular, though we have seen them keep in bathroom design over the past few years, they are gaining momentum in kitchen design to create vibrant and contemporary spaces. Dekton Ukiyo by Cosentino is a great way to incorporated fluted surfaces within the kitchen. Veined worktops can also be used to add interest, depth and layers to an otherwise flat surface, and the delicate pattern can be incorporated for designs that are characterful and intricate to introduce a touch of sparkle and glamour on countertops or splashbacks,” comments Katie.

Invisible technology

Supplementing seamless design schemes is invisible technology, with more homeowners investing in smart appliances that are tactfully hidden from view. This enhances functionality in the home without compromising aesthetic appeal.

The Essential Induction is innovation in its purest form, developed collaboratively by Gaggenau and Cosentino. The innovative technology combines with Dekton’s ultracompact and scratch resistant surface – the result being a high-performing, single surface appliance with no barriers, frames or gaps for seamless integration in any kitchen

For 2025, Dulux encourages architects, specifiers, and designers to embrace yellow, bringing a sense of optimism, pride, and imagination to their projects. To guide these professionals in introducing bold, positive shades to clients, the paint manufacturer has named True Joy™ as its Colour of the Year for 2025, supported by three adaptable ColourFutures™ palettes.

For over two decades, the Dulux Colour of the Year has been selected through in-depth trend research by Dulux’s colour experts and international design professionals. True Joy™ for 2025 is a bright and uplifting yellow, reflecting people’s desire to break free, reset, and innovate. Dulux also encourages designers to spread the joy of yellow, helping clients step out of their comfort zones and feel confident.

Yellow hues, like True Joy™, can be used as bold statement colours or as accents. To assist designers in advising clients on ideal colour pairings, Dulux has developed three supporting ColourFutures™ palettes:

  • Bold Colour Story: Inspired by the excitement of adventure, these bold hues inject spontaneity and energy into any space. Bright blues and oranges contrast beautifully with accent yellow, making them perfect for educational and office environments where inspiration and creativity are paramount.
  • Human Colour Story: Celebrating artisanal craftsmanship, these shades of wood and clay reflect the natural materials used in handmade processes. Ideal for educational and healthcare spaces, these colours bring warmth and authenticity.
  • Proud Colour Story: Drawing from diverse global cultures, these rich, earthy browns and greens celebrate the heritages that make us unique. These colours are well-suited for hospitality and residential environments, creating a welcoming, homely atmosphere.

Dawn Scott, Dulux Trade Senior Colour Designer, said: “True Joy™ and its complementary palettes offer a fresh perspective on how colour shapes our built environments. These colours aren’t just trends; they are tools for architects and specifiers to create spaces that reflect their clients’ values and visions, enhancing our experience of the spaces we live in.

“One of the most powerful applications of True Joy™ is within healthcare settings. When paired with the earthy, natural tones of the Human Colour Story, it can transform waiting rooms, corridors, and communal areas into uplifting and calming spaces. This combination brightens the atmosphere while connecting patients and staff to warmth, creativity, and well-being.”

Wood surfaces have long been cherished for their timeless beauty, but as homeowners seek more durable, sustainable and low-maintenance options, wood-effect tiles are emerging as a clear favourite. Offering the best of both worlds with the durability of ceramic tile and the warm hues of wood, wood-effect tiles are popular with those looking for something with a more traditional aesthetic. María D Arraez, director at Tile of Spain UK explains why wood-effect tiles are the superior choice and how to use them in the home.

Superior durability

“Unlike real wood, which is prone to scratches, dents and wear over time, wood-effect tiles are designed to withstand heavy traffic, making them suitable for busy homes and spaces such as hallways. Wood-effect tiles are also completely waterproof, making them the ideal option for rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas. Try using them on kitchen splashbacks and bathroom flooring to create an eye-catching display, as seen in the Poeme Roble by Keraben.”

Low maintenance

“Wood-effect tiles require minimal maintenance as they don’t need sealing or staining, as is the case with real wood. They are extremely easy to keep clean and will continue looking as fresh as the day they were installed. An option such as the Bosland Nature Tile by Rocersa is perfect for homes with muddy paws and children who like to play outdoors, as a simple sweep and mop will ensure a pristine condition for many years to come.”

Versatile designs

“With so many colours, textures and finishes mimicking the look of real wood, you will be spoilt for choice. From light oak to deep mahogany, there is so much versatility with wood-effect tiles that you can achieve your desired look without the limitations of natural wood grain. Whichever room you’re redecorating, there will be a wood-effect tile to suit, offering a consistent appearance across your chosen surface. The Alchemy Pearl Tile by Peronda is particularly effective when used in the bedroom, as its light-coloured and gentle tones are ideal for creating a relaxing environment, whilst the Alvaral Louis Roble Tile by Undefasa, with its eye-catching pattern, is better suited to spaces in need of a statement.”

Tile specialist WOW Design has developed a new collection, Melange, a tile designed to create unique transitions from one colour to another – ideal for transforming walls into sophisticated tapestries. Through its visual representation of colour gradation, also known as ‘ombré’ or ‘gradient shading,’ gentle progressive transitions from one colour or hue to another are created using small-format tiles.

Thanks to the collection’s expert use of colour, Melange allows notable transitions from cool to warm shades. This brings new sensations to living spaces, allowing shifts from blue or talcum hues to pink, from khaki to sea – or cloud-inspired tones, or from creamy or earthy shades to sky-like colours.

These captivating colour transitions can transform walls into exquisite tapestries, turning them into genuine works of art with seamlessly blending hues. Melange combines art and technology, offering limitless potential for designing and personalizing living spaces. The smooth colour transitions add depth and movement to surfaces, creating three-dimensional effects.

The collection comes in long rectangular 10.7 x 54.2cm. (4.2”x21.3”) wall tiles in a matt finish, with 3 sets of 5 different tile models for dressing up walls in 3 different blends.

Cosentino has introduced the Dekton Pietra Edition, a contemporary collection inspired by iconic Mediterranean stones. This launch follows the successful 2023 debut of Dekton® Pietra Kode, envisioned by renowned designer and architect Daniel Germani. The new Pietra Kode designs will be available in the UK starting 11 July 2024.

The ultra-compact Dekton Pietra Edition collection replicates the intricate details of traditional stones like Travertine, Ceppo Di Gré, Piasentina, and Campaspero, while offering enhanced realism and durability to meet the demands of modern architecture and interior design.

“Pietra Edition is the new journey to the origin of timeless and Mediterranean architecture already started with Pietra Kode,” said Daniel Germani.

“I am proud to continue my collaboration with Cosentino to bring the designs of Pietra Edition to designers, architects, and homeowners as a surface that is both timeless and innovative.”

Featuring Dekton’s TSP technology, the carbon-neutral Dekton® Pietra Edition introduces a technological layer to iconic natural stones with six serene designs. The collection pays homage to the enduring elegance of Mediterranean natural stones while elevating their design.

Pietra Edition’s palette of six styles includes four distinct stone textures, such as the newly introduced Piasentina and Campaspero:

  • Ava: Drawing inspiration from Ceppo di Gré, a stone from the Lombardy region, Ava features a rough yet warm design, perfect for Mediterranean-style projects.
  • Adia: This design offers a versatile finish with a silky appearance. Its cream tone and soft white lines elevate any design project.
  • Nebu: Recreating the depth of Roman Travertine, Nebu’s unique irregularities bring a timeless charm to any space.
  • Polar: Inspired by Spanish stone Campaspero, Polar features a hyper-realistic pattern with beige tones, greyish and cream veins, small inlays, and fossils.
  • Sandik: This design embodies the traditional elegance of Campaspero with a softer finish, featuring a cream background and subtle grey tones, ideal for outdoor applications.
