Acquabella operates within the ES group, a European holding company specialising in mineral-based bathroom products, including shower trays, washbasins, bathtubs and wall panels. Encompassing the brands Fiora, MC Bath, Nuovvo, and Oh My Shower, the group has created a new role for Rob Heredia, taking his 15 years of experience as Acquabella area manager.

Rob’s mission is to enhance the technical intricacies of the products across all brands, thereby facilitating the work of installers and plumbers. Today, we uncover more about this important new role.

BR: As Acquabella undergoes new and exciting transformations, could you provide insights into the developments?

RH: We are taking advantage of the synergies of being part of a large corporation and are always searching for excellent customer service. Last year, we opened our first warehouse in Worcester with a permanent stock of shower trays, enabling express deliveries to the UK and Scotland. We are also constantly developing new solutions and resources for installers and plumbers, such as training sessions, installation videos and support from our Bathroom Doctor.

BR: Your recent appointment as Bathroom Doctor at ES Group signals a significant change. How do you anticipate your new role contributing to Acquabella’s commercial growth strategy within the UK market?

RH: After my success as the Acquabella brand ambassador (UK), I am excited to start a new challenge as a Bathroom Doctor. It is time to focus on one of our most important audiences – installers. I am also eager to expand my reach to other markets, such as Germany and France. I’m sure this push towards a more professional audience will bring new business not only for Acquabella but also for the other brands included in the Group.

BR: What is the meaning behind the name, and what are the primary objectives within your new role?

RH: As the Bathroom Doctor for ES Group, my job involves engaging installers with our products, particularly shower trays. My aim is to make their working day better and quicker and help them make more money. We strive to enhance the technical aspects of our products and communicate the main advantages: ease of use, quick installation, cleanliness, and finish. This is a highly technical position, requiring a solid understanding of all installation methods and an ability to effectively train installers and apprentices.

BR: In what ways will installers benefit from engaging with Acquabella’s Bathroom Doctor initiative?

RH: I believe this position is necessary because I am very curious apart from my commercial objectives. I discuss every product detail with our R&D manager, and ideas come to life through discussion. We have created a WhatsApp group in the UK specifically for installers. This allows us to share projects, installation tips, and advice. And this is just the beginning. In Germany, we recently launched a brand-new installation video, a key tool for professionals where they can witness how easy, fast and clean it is to install our shower tray and panels.

BR: Could you elaborate on the apprenticeship and training opportunities Acquabella currently offers aspiring professionals?

RH: Within ES Group, we recognize the importance of training and supporting our installers and apprentices. We regularly provide on-site courses on various products, such as shower trays and panels. We also attend installation fairs and trade shows to connect with our clients and showcase our products and benefits. I am on the front line of this effort, actively engaging installers and apprentices. Soon, we will be incorporating CPDS to make our courses and presentations more compelling and informative.

BR: In a world obsessed with AI – where do you see Acquabella innovating/benefitting from new technologies?

RH: Both Acquabella and ES Group are very actively engaging with AI, with our AI committee being chaired and run by our Group CEO. We see huge benefits across almost every aspect of our market place. However, to start with, we are very focused on the huge and immediate advantages AI can bring to customer service, marketing, and NPD. They are our focus for now.

BR: And finally, on a lighter note, being immersed in the world of bathrooms, what’s the most memorable or amusing experience you’ve had whilst working for Acquabella?

RH: Building a new market for Acquabella 15 years ago, with a new and innovative product, was a challenge, especially since I could hardly speak any English. However, I was determined to improve my language skills, and I improved by reading books and listening to English music.

For my personal growth, I have had the privilege of meeting numerous clients who have become friends, as well as building an exceptional team of commercial agents. I have countless unforgettable memories and anecdotes from my journey with Acquabella.

Professionally, I have experienced historic moments, such as receiving the European Company of the Year 2019 award in Warsaw. This was a great moment for me and Acquabella.

Tom Reynolds, chief executive of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association, explains why this year’s Annual Industry Conference is particularly crucial.

As I write, the UK General Election has just been announced. If the forecasts are correct, they mean we stand at the precipice of a new political era. The decisions made at the ballot box will inevitably shape the trajectory of our economy and, by extension, the bathroom industry.

Therefore, this year’s BMA Industry Conference, themed ‘Building Growth’, is timely. Taking place on September 16th and 17th at the Queens Hotel in Leeds, it promises to reflect on political shifts and answer how we can collectively foster growth.

Our nation’s housing crisis remains one of the most pressing challenges. The imperative to ‘get Britain building’ has implications for everyone from manufacturers, designers and architects to installers and plumbers. The housing shortage affects us all, and the conference will serve as a vital forum for discussing how to alleviate this issue while driving our industry forward.

This year’s lineup of expert speakers is particularly noteworthy. Jo Salter, famed for becoming the first female fast jet pilot and now a motivational speaker, will open with a session on ‘The Growth Mindset’, setting the tone for proactive thinking. Her insights will be invaluable as we navigate the complexities of fostering growth in a competitive market. Following Jo, we will hear from Mohammed Chaudhri, Experian’s Chief Economist and Director of Market Intelligence, who will delve into the economic outlook. Mohammed’s expertise will critically analyse whether growth is a realistic expectation in the current economic and political climate, offering us a grounded perspective on what lies ahead.

One of the conference highlights will be ‘The Big Debate’, a panel discussion focusing on what we can do to get Britain building and the role of bathroom manufacturers. This debate is a thought-provoking session where industry leaders discuss actionable strategies to boost housing development, highlighting the relationship between housing growth and a thriving bathroom sector.

The construction of new homes presents a significant opportunity for our industry. A surge in building activity drives demand for bathroom products and spurs innovation and collaboration. From cutting-edge designs to sustainable solutions, the growth potential is immense.

I urge you to book your delegate places early for what promises to be an insightful and inspiring event. Join us in Leeds to engage with industry peers, learn from leading experts, and explore how the government plans to tackle our nation’s growth challenges.

More information can be found on the BMA Industry Conference website.

The result is an elegant antithesis, not only in colour but also in the texture of the natural stone, with different veins and nuances meeting at the top edge, crafted to achieve a minimal and striking thickness. Bianco Carrara and Bianco del Re are the options dedicated to the internal silhouette of the tub, while the exterior can be customized in a wide range of marbles, travertines, and semi-precious stones.

A Houzz Survey has found Gen Xers lead in median spend, while Baby Boomers drive renovation activity as spend has surged in the last three years.

According to Houzz, a premier home renovation and design platform, the median spending has surged by 13%, rising from £15,000 in 2020 to £17,000 in 2023. The 2024 UK Houzz & Home Study, which surveyed nearly 1,800 participants, revealed that spending among the top 90th percentile has skyrocketed to £200,000, doubling from £100,000 in 2020. Although renovation activity remains steady with 48% of homeowners embarking on renovation projects in 2023, this marks a slight decrease of one percentage point from the previous year.

For the second consecutive year, Gen Xers** have led the way in renovation spending, with a median expenditure of £22,000. In comparison, Millennials and Baby Boomers spent £15,000 and £16,000, respectively. The top 10% of spenders within these groups invested significantly, with Gen Xers allocating £200,000 and Baby Boomers spending £180,000. Despite Gen Xers leading in spending, Baby Boomers are the most active in renovation projects, accounting for 54% of the activity, followed by Gen Xers at 34% and Millennials at 12%.

“Despite economic headwinds, investment in home renovations continued in 2023. Gen Xers, in particular, continued to lead the charge in spending,” said Marine Sargsyan, Houzz staff economist. “As homeowners finally had the means to upgrade their spaces, the reliance on professional help remained strong. Looking ahead, nearly half of homeowners are now planning renovations, highlighting a strong enthusiasm for enhancing living spaces.”

Along with this substantial investment, nearly all renovating homeowners enlisted the help of a home professional in 2023 (93%), with specialty service providers such as electricians (59%), and plumbers (52%), hired most frequently. Homeowners are also taking the time to both plan and save for their projects. Renovation planning is typically double the time the actual construction takes. Plus, “finally having the financial means” is the project catalyst for more than a third of renovating homeowners.

Considering that motivation, it’s no surprise that cash from savings continues to be the most common form of funding for renovation projects (86%), followed by credit cards and cash from a previous home sale (18%, each). Credit card usage jumped 7 percentage points in 2023 (10% in 2022).

Multi-Room Renovations

Homeowners consistently undertake multiple renovation projects simultaneously. Renovating homeowners on average target nearly three interior room upgrades and two or more outdoor projects during their renovations.

Bathrooms Lead in Project Activity

Bathrooms continue to lead as the most commonly renovated interior room (29%), closely followed by kitchens and living rooms (26% each). Following last year’s significant jump in median spend for bath and kitchen projects, these renovations saw increases of 39% and 16%, respectively, reaching £7,300 for bathrooms and £15,100 for kitchens in 2023.

Outdoor Projects Back in the Spotlight

Following a brief drop, outdoor project activity rose 17 percentage points in 2023 (51%, compared with 34% in 2022). Outdoor lighting is the most commonly updated outdoor system (28%). Security systems follow (15%, up nearly 2 percentage points from last year), as homeowners install cameras and sensors around their properties.

* Median spend is the midpoint level, meaning half of renovating homeowners on Houzz spent more and half spent less.

** Generational categories follow Pew Research Center’s age ranges: Millennials (25-39), Gen Xers (40-54) and Baby Boomers (55-74).

Products worldwide compete in prestigious design awards such as the Red Dot, iF, and German Design Award. The Unidrain pedal bin has been recognised with several of these honours, including the iF Design Award for its “idea, form, function, differentiation, and impact,” the German Design Award for “Excellent Design,” and the Red Dot Design Award 2024 for its “excellent quality and outstanding design” in the Product Design category.

“We’re delighted that our new pedal bin is receiving recognition with these three design awards. When we develop new products for the Reframe range, the product has to stand out and preferably solve everyday problems in a more elegant way than other products on the market. I think we’ve succeeded here once again,” product manager Jacob Honoré enthuses.

The pedal bin is the latest addition to Unidrain’s Reframe Collection. Its timeless design features an elegant and simplistic exterior, which conceals carefully thought-out solutions for specific practical challenges. With clean lines and no external mechanics, the bin is easy to clean and ideal for standing freely and visibly in any room. Additionally, its height of 31.5 cm matches that of the toilet brush, enhancing the overall design aesthetic.

The pedal bin has been designed with a soft open/close lid, so it can be placed against any surface as the lid will not hit a wall when it opens, which avoids annoying banging noises, making it both silent and stylish.
The bin has a non-slip rubber foot which complements the specially designed spring-loaded pedal, this guarantees the bin’s stability during use whilst protecting again overloading, making it an elegant yet solid, sturdy bathroom accessory.

It has a handy and hygienic removable insert. This inner container is made of impact-resistant plastic, so it is easy to clean and stays rust-free. The inner container also has a ring of double-sided tape on the inside, which simplifies the fitting of bin bags.

The pedal bin is available in brushed and polished steel as well as copper, brass and black PVD finishes. It joins the other Reframe accessories, including the soap dispenser, shower shelf, screen wiper, hooks, corner shelf, toilet brush, toilet roll holder, plus spare toilet roll holder.
