As demand for efficient, easy-to-install shower spaces continues to rise, today’s manufacturers have responded with a range of products that simplify the process for design and construction professionals. Modular components, standardised product ranges and user-friendly installation solutions make it easier to create customised shower spaces that meet functional and aesthetic demands.

In this feature, Diane Larner examines the latest products to reach the market – from minimalist shower design to water-saving features.

Minimalist Style

KEUCO IXMO
KEUCO IXMO

In recent years, minimalist design has surged in popularity. Clean lines, uncluttered spaces and a focus on capability characterise the movement. The look has extended beyond living and kitchen areas to the bathroom, making it the perfect design philosophy for the shower.

James Sketch, KEUCO UK country, explains, “Minimalism continues to shape contemporary shower design, with the focus on clean lines, understated elegance, and intelligent functionality. Current trends emphasise walk-in showering spaces with sleek, accessible features that can be adapted for multigenerational living while maintaining a luxurious feel. Neutral palettes and tactile finishes create calm, spa‑like environments, with the use of concealed fittings to ensure seamless aesthetics.”

In the world of bathroom innovation, KEUCO’s IXMO shower series has become a benchmark for both technical excellence and design minimalism. Developed for specifiers, designers, and discerning homeowners, IXMO combines multiple functions into the fewest possible visible components, creating shower spaces that are as stylish as they are efficient.

Making Connections

Ideal Standard Connect 2

Pairing shower enclosures and shower trays with the rest of the bathroom requires careful attention when coordinating spaces. The key is to ensure the materials and finish complement the overall design to create a cohesive look that blends with furniture, tiles and sanitaryware. Additionally, unobtrusive low-profile shower design helps create a seamless look, which in turn enhances the overall aesthetic.

Yiota Toumba, senior designer at The Villeroy & Boch Group, agrees, “These days, shower trays and enclosures aren’t just about function – they’re a key part of the bathroom’s look and feel. We’re seeing a real move toward sleek, low-profile trays that sit almost level with the floor, giving a more open, seamless feel.”

The Connect 2 range of shower enclosures from Ideal Standard is designed for flexibility, with sliding doors, bi-fold styles, and wet-room solutions available to suit a variety of bathroom layouts and spaces. Available in Chrome and Silk Black finishes, the enclosures are easy to pair with matching furniture and fittings, creating a cohesive, integrated bathroom.

Carefree Colour

CRL Shower Door Thresholds

Colour has made a comeback this year, becoming a central fixture on the design agenda. In bathrooms, colour helps create a bold aesthetic or can be used to define structure and layout. The use of colour in hardware adds an unexpected twist, especially when used to soften or accentuate design schemes – whether bold and dark for a sleek, contemporary look, or rose gold for a touch of luxury.

Simon Boocock, MD, CRL, comments, “Colour remains big news and innovation in hardware design is providing consumers with more choice than ever before. Designers can now create boutique-inspired enclosures with hardware in a plethora of finishes from Brushed Nickel and Satin Brass to Matte Black – and innovations such as our new Shower Door Thresholds are giving customers even more creative freedom.”

CRL has extended the design possibilities of its shower systems, including the multi-award-winning Quadrato, with the launch of new, coordinating Shower Door Thresholds. Available in six chic and sophisticated colours of Matte Black, Brite Anodised, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Satin Brass, and Brite Gold Anodised, CRL’s new Shower Door Thresholds will seamlessly complement all of its bespoke frameless shower screens to create a truly cohesive look.

Tall Orders

Multipanel 2-7m panel

We have a love affair with height in the UK, and buildings that boast extravagantly high ceilings carry an undeniable charm. However, making use of such a space can be a challenge. According to Chaboun Construction, properties built before the mid-20th century often feature higher ceilings, sometimes up to 2.7 meters. Leveraging the space without it feeling lofty and uncomfortable can be achieved through innovative panel design, creating a stunning, cohesive atmosphere that is expansive yet well-proportioned.

Elliott Fairlie, product and marketing director at Grant Westfield, says, “As more homeowners renovate period properties like Georgian and Victorian homes, there’s growing demand for wall solutions that accommodate higher ceilings without compromising on style. The result is a sleek, seamless look that enhances the architectural character of these homes while offering the waterproof performance and ease of installation retailers and fitters rely on.”

Waterproof bathroom wall panel brand Multipanel is expanding its range to include a new 2.7m panel height, designed to meet the growing demand for full-height solutions in properties with taller ceilings.

Water Aware

Module X From Crosswater

Only last week, the Environment Agency urged water efficiency to become a national priority, with Helen Wakeham, EA director of Water, saying, “Climate change and population growth are putting a tremendous strain on resources and this year’s drought is a stark reminder that we all need to be more mindful of our consumption.”

The water agency has also issued a bleak warning about the likelihood of more frequent droughts in the future, and is continuing to progress toward mandatory water labelling. With this in mind, incorporating water-saving products into bathroom design is more relevant than ever before. By selecting high-performance, water-saving fixtures, architects, house builders, and homeowners can address rising environmental costs and lower utility bills, while also contributing to the overall sustainability of their projects.

Jorge Hernandez, head of design at Crosswater, comments, “Across the industry, we have seen a growing appreciation for intuitive controls that hold temperature reliably and make every day shower use effortless and user-friendly. Equally important is the shift toward eco-conscious design in showering, requiring manufacturers to deliver water-saving solutions that maintain high pressure and performance while meeting the expectations of today’s buyers.”

Module Push from Crosswater is designed with sustainability in mind. It features water-saving controls while presenting the latest in luxury showering technology and design.

When a historic Derbyshire almshouse charity needed a faster, safer way to modernise its bathrooms, Kinedo’s Kinemagic walk-in shower cubicle from Saniflo provided the perfect solution.

Bathroom-Review-KINEDO_Almshouse_

The Etwall Almshouses, founded in the 1500s by Sir John Port, are managed by a charitable trust that provides homes for residents aged over 50. To minimise disruption during refurbishments, the trustees wanted a shower solution that could be installed quickly and safely, with grab rails and a seat included as standard, but they wanted one that was also aesthetically pleasing.

Working with local plumbers’ merchant Willbond and installer Etta Plumbing, the trust selected the Kinemagic Serenity. Thanks to its striking design, integrated tray, glass panels and door system, Kinemagic delivers a watertight, low-maintenance showering solution with no need for tiles, grout or silicone, making it ideal for rapid installations with minimal mess.

The first installation was completed in just one day with support from Saniflo’s technical team. A second, smaller model followed soon after.

Trustee Graham Wale said: “Our tenants love the Kinemagic units and they save us valuable time during refurbishments – it’s a win-win.”

Kudos has launched its first collection of Pentangle shower enclosures, expanding its popular Pinnacle8 collection. Designed as a stylish alternative to quadrant enclosures, this accessible range is available in a choice of chrome, matte black, or brushed brass profiles.

This new hinged enclosure range features 8mm toughened safety glass panels, and models are available in 900 x 900mm, 1200 x 900mm, and 1400 x 900mm sizes, all 2000mm in height.

Models come with concealed fixings throughout and feature stylish and robust die-cast rise-and-fall hinges to ensure the doors close easily every time. To aid with installation, the slimline profiles offer 20mm of adjustment, and the glass-to-glass seals are crystal clear, providing a beautifully clean finish.

Made in the UK, these enclosures have Lifeshield glass protection to ease cleaning and come with a lifetime guarantee. This new enclosure collection currently works well when installed on a wetroom floor, but a new Pentangle shower tray will soon be available to suit.

Kudos Shower Products has been designing and manufacturing shower products at its Cumbria facility since 1999. Now part of the Ronal Bathroom Group, its portfolio includes shower enclosures, shower trays, over-bath screens, and wet-room solutions sold via KBB showrooms and merchants across the UK.

Grange Design has unveiled its bathroom trend forecast for autumn-winter 2025, highlighting a growing consumer appetite for natural materials, organic forms, and wellness-led design.

According to the UK-based manufacturer and distributor, the natural trend is now the most influential style in bathroom interiors, with homeowners and designers embracing calming colours, tactile textures, and biophilic influences to create sanctuary-like spaces.

Basins
The wash zone continues to be shaped by biophilic design. Wood accents, greenery, and curved design details are increasingly present, with circular basins and rounded brassware spouts reflecting nature-inspired forms.

Bathing
Wellness remains a driving force, with demand for freestanding soaking tubs complemented by sleek floorstanding or wall-mounted bath fillers. Integrated handshowers and diverters add versatility, supporting the shift towards luxury bathing experiences at home.

Showers
Sensory showering is another key trend, with rainfall-style deluge heads offering full-body coverage and a closer connection to nature. Larger, ceiling-mounted models are cited as the preferred option for creating a spa-inspired daily ritual.

Layout
Spatial planning is moving towards uncluttered, free-flowing schemes. Grange Design notes that maximising light and layering natural textures are central to layouts that feel uplifting yet restrained.

As part of its trend forecast, Grange Design highlights its Atlantic Collection of brassware, designed to pair with raw materials such as wood and stone. The range includes the Atlantic Single Lever Mono Basin Mixer Tap in Chrome (£185 inc VAT) and the Atlantic 3-Piece Basin Mixer with Square Spout in Matt Black (£468 inc VAT).

Waterproof bathroom wall panel brand Multipanel is expanding its range to include a new 2.7m panel height, designed to meet the growing demand for full-height solutions in properties with taller ceilings.

Bathroom-Review-Multipanel-Tall-Bathroom_CrystalMarbleAndC

Ideal for older buildings such as Victorian and Edwardian homes, where ceiling heights often exceed modern standards, the new 2.7m panels make it easier to achieve a seamless, grout-free finish from floor to ceiling, without the need for horizontal joins or trims. The added height offers a cleaner aesthetic while saving time on installation and improving waterproofing integrity.

The 2.7m panels are available in both 598mm and 1200mm widths and feature Multipanel’s proprietary Hydrolock® tongue-and-groove system for a flush, discreet join. Fully waterproof and grout-free, the panels are easy to clean and quick to install, making them a practical alternative to traditional tiles.

The new format is available across Multipanel’s core collections, including Tile and Pure, giving retailers and installers even more flexibility when designing or upgrading bathrooms with higher ceilings.

Backed by a 30-year warranty and made in Edinburgh using over 90% UK-sourced materials, Multipanel panels continue to lead the way in bathroom wall innovation, providing a smarter alternative to traditional tiles.

The Shower Lab has expanded its View Collection with the introduction of the View 21.2H – a frameless, double-hinged bifold panel system designed for elegant, space-efficient wet rooms. Once a bespoke solution, this innovative design is now available as a standard offering to bathroom designers across the UK.

Engineered for smaller bathrooms and multigenerational households, the View 21.2H brings a sleek, luxurious finish to wetroom layouts where space is at a premium. Precision-made from 10mm toughened safety glass, tested to EN12150 standard, each panel folds flat against the wall when not in use. This creates valuable space and removes the need for thresholds, reducing trip hazards and making it ideal for inclusive, accessible bathrooms.

Designed with functionality and elegance in mind, the panels feature solid brass hinges. These allow the glass to pivot both inwards and outwards, ensuring effortless use and maximum flexibility. Each unit can be configured for either left or right-hand openings and is available in a range of standard sizes to suit varied layouts.

Glass panels are finished with EnduroShield – a durable, clear polymer coating that forms a non-stick barrier against limescale and residue. This treatment keeps the glass water-repellent, easy to clean, and looking pristine. A dry-glazing system also ensures a minimal silicone finish, creating a modern aesthetic and leak-free installation.

Available in 10 premium finishes, including Brushed Gunmetal Grey, Polished Gold, Light Aged Bronze, and Matt Black, the View 21.2H adds a sophisticated edge to any bathroom. Designers can further customise with coloured or textured glass options, such as Satin Etched, Bronze, or Fluted styles.

Dileep Arulmoli, commercial & operations director at The Shower Lab, comments: “Unlocking the wow-factor in compact bathrooms requires innovatively designed products that effectively utilise the space without compromising on the overall aesthetic. Consumers with compact bathrooms should not have to sacrifice on quality either. Our View 21.2H design, originally a bespoke concept, is now an integral part of our frameless View Collection. The double-hinged bifold panels allow designers to create an opulent, space-saving wetroom in any bathroom that elegantly folds away when not in use.”

Shower design for today’s housing market requires a balance of style, functionality, and adaptability to evolving consumer needs. As urban living spaces become more compact and multi-generational, the demand for chic, space-saving solutions is at an all-time high.

Modern shower designs are moving towards open, minimalist concepts that maximise space and light while offering luxury and practicality. Flatter shower trays and seamless enclosures are increasingly popular and provide an aesthetic edge. At the same time, the rise of sustainable and smart technologies means designers can integrate water-efficient features with easy-to-maintain materials.

Diane Larner examines how innovations are transforming shower design to reflect user expectations.

Ultra luxurious

Sleek, low-profile shower trays deliver a minimalist look that helps create an open feel to the bathroom space. In a world where multi-generational living is on the rise, flush-to-floor installations enhance accessibility and inclusivity, making them a safer option for all ages, from young children to elderly family members. They also provide peace of mind for homeowners, as they are less likely to run into leakage or drainage issues.

Sven Rensinghoff, head of marketing at Bette, agrees, “There is a growing demand for large, flatter and level-with-the-floor shower trays, that can give the look of a wet room, without any worries about water leakage. There’s also a growing understanding of the benefits of glazed-steel shower trays in terms of their durability and ease of cleaning. With a wide colour choice available, such as Bette’s 31 Key Colours available on all shower trays, there is also the opportunity to coordinate the shower tray with the bathroom flooring.”

The new BetteUltra Space shower tray is Bette’s flattest-ever shower tray. It has a minimalist, timeless design and an ultra-flat height of just 15mm. It can be installed flush with the floor or slightly raised and comes in a choice of 20 sizes from 800 × 800 mm to 1700 × 800 mm and in a wide range of colours.

Going solo

Bathroom-Review-Kinedo-Solo-Design-gold-Giraffe-Kinewall
Kinedo Solo Range

For architects and designers, sourcing bathroom products from a single supplier is an efficient way to streamline the process. Consolidating purchases means buyers can worry less about design consistency across the project, since each element will likely be coordinated, be it shower trays, enclosures, or accessories. In addition, this approach simplifies the procurement process, mitigating the risk of compatibility issues between different product lines. Thanks to volume discounts, cost savings can also be expected on package deals. A single-supplier approach will simplify project management, offering reliable delivery schedules, warranty management, and a direct point of contact for support. This ultimately allows buyers to focus on the creative aspects of the design. Kinedo is one such supplier that offers this service to its customers.

Amanda Mills, marketing manager for Kinedo, comments. “With a comprehensive range of all-in-one cubicles, shower enclosures, walk-ins, trays, plus our stunning collection of shower panels, Kinedo is very much a one-stop shop for showering. There is a growing market for products that help customers personalise their space, and the new glass panel options and the myriad of panel designs in our range mean that a customer can opt for unique combinations to suit their own taste.”

Kinedo has revamped its walk-in shower range and added some stunning new options. The Solo range combines existing products in various sizes with door options that include pivot, bi-fold, sliding, static, and kick panels.

Electric appeal

Bathroom-Review-Aqaulisa-GREY_ROOMSET
Aqualisa E2 Series

Electric showers continue to gain traction among architects working across retrofit, modular, and multi-residential sectors, particularly where water pressure, space constraints, or system independence is a concern. Their ease of installation and self-contained heating mean they remain a practical solution in scenarios where system separation or decentralised supply is an issue. Aesthetic limitations, once a common drawback, are now being addressed by manufacturers pushing design-forward innovation. The latest electric showers feature slimmer profiles and improved interfaces, whilst finishes reflect broader bathroom trends – think matte black, brushed brass, and soft-touch digital controls. Electric showers are no longer purely functional but align with design intent and user experience.

Nigel Palmer, head of communications marketing for House of Rohl, agrees, “The latest electric showers may surprise people with their performance and stylish design, as well as value for money. There is a trend towards more premium finishes, so you don’t have to opt for cheap-looking plastics. And by using electricity to heat up the exact amount of water used, they are efficient too – many electric showers have an ‘A-rating’ for energy efficiency.”

Aqualisa’s electric showers have been designed to be stylish and sophisticated additions to any bathroom. They combine the eco-friendly benefits of water and energy conservation. Its E2 series, for example, is a sleek, space-saving shower with advanced functions and simple operation. It provides a hot and refreshing shower virtually instantly, taking water from the cold mains supply, so there is no demand for stored hot water tanks.

Time to spa

BAGNODESIGN – BAGNOSPA 4 FUNCTION SHOWER HEAD

Spa-style bathrooms are fast becoming recognised as a design staple. Drawing on natural materials, ambient lighting, and elegant fittings, these spaces feel calm and considered. Features such as freestanding tubs, rain showers, and soothing colour schemes enhance well-being.

In addition, shrinking bathroom footprints in UK properties present an ongoing challenge for developers and designers attempting to deliver a sense of luxury in compact spaces. With urban living on the rise and space at a premium, balancing functionality with high-end aesthetics is key. This shift calls for innovative thinking that blends streamlined design with products that maximise every inch without losing that essential feeling of indulgence. This is where a luxurious shower design can make its mark.

Katy Olsen, brand manager at BAGNODESIGN, explains, “Showering has become key to creating a wellness environment and is now seen as just as important as a freestanding bath in cultivating a spa-style bathroom. Like many elements of bathroom design, it really comes down to personal preference, and for many consumers, showering is definitely perceived as promoting relaxation and wellness as well as rejuvenation.

“Showers that combine different functions are perfect for creating a wellness environment with ceiling-mounted shower heads that offer an immersive experience, proving popular with consumers looking to personalise their showering space.”

The BAGNOSPA 4 Function Shower Head from luxury bathroom brand BAGNODESIGN is designed for relaxation and rejuvenation, perfect for creating a spa-like setting at home. This recessed shower head features four functions: waterfall, spray, rain curtain, and rain, as well as RGB LED lights. It measures 600 x 600mm and requires a minimum operating pressure of 1.5 bar for an indulgent showering experience that promotes wellness.

Mix & match

Kudos Ultimate Slimline Shower Tray

As shower trends shift towards a more customised approach, there is a growing preference for integrating design elements that help to build a cohesive, sophisticated aesthetic throughout the bathroom or shower room. Eye-catching new materials, colours, and finishes make it easy to create visually striking yet practical shower spaces. This approach allows for a seamless integration of luxury features while meeting the demand for efficient, modern living environments.

Sarah Stepney, trade marketing at Kudos, concurs, “From an enclosure perspective, the key is to offer a broad range of design options, at all price points, allowing the end-user to personalise the space and trade-up. So, whether that be low-level shower trays in various colours, minimalist enclosures with slim profiles or a wet room solution with complementary glass panels, anything goes. Coloured profiles that match or coordinate with brassware are growing in popularity as are tinted glass, decorative or mirrored shower panels.”

Kudos has been creating showering products in its Cumbrian facility for the past 26 years. The most recent product introductions developed and manufactured within its UK facility are the ULTIMATE slimline shower tray, just 27mm in height (manufactured to bespoke sizes), and SIONA, a semi-frameless shower panel and enclosure collection – available in eight popular sizes.
