British Ceramic Tile has ceased trading with immediate effect as the company has fallen into administration, resulting in the loss of over 300 jobs.
313 members of staff have been made redundant, with 67 employees temporarily remaining on board to wind the business down.
Headquartered in Newton Abbot, British Ceramic Tile Ltd is one of the UK’s largest manufacturers and distributors of ceramic wall and floor tiles. The company employs 380 people across the UK at its sites in Newton Abbot, Devon and Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.
According to a statement issued by specialist business advisory firm FRP Advisory LLP, which is handling the administration, BCT has “ceased trading with immediate effect”, however the company’s website is still live and it still appears to be possible to place orders. A spokesperson for FRP said they were in the process of taking the website down.
Joint administrator Andrew Sheridan of FRP Advisory has urged parties interested in acquiring the business to make contact.
“British Ceramic Tile Limited is a leading player in the manufacturer of ceramic tiles, with a long-standing heritage in the local communities in which it operates and a stellar reputation for its quality products,” he said.
"Unfortunately, challenging trading conditions and the termination of a key customer contract in recent days have forced the business to enter administration and cease trading with immediate effect.”
