The Balcoon bathroom range, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Duravit, has been crowned “Winner” in the Excellent Product Design – Bath and Wellness category at the German Design Award 2025.
The collection has been widely praised for its design quality, combining geometric precision with a warm, natural palette. Balcoon features a coordinated look across ceramics, furniture, and faucets, all in matching tones, offering a cohesive solution for modern bathrooms.
Design philosophy
Precise, geometric ceramic shapes and clean lines define the Balcoon range, which embraces a new openness to colour in the bathroom. For Urquiola, the design process was guided by simplicity and clarity:
“The brief was for a design that clearly sets itself apart in the medium price segment – with a pure, direct formal language and an inherent dignity,” she said.
Starting from two fundamental geometries – a cubic body and a cylindrical washbasin – the range is designed for both form and function. The new ceramic colour, Clay Terra Matt, adds an earthy terracotta tone that gives depth and artisanal charm to each piece.
Jury recognition
The award jury highlighted the harmonious balance of natural colours and clear geometry, noting that Clay Terra Matt gives the ceramics and furniture a warm, authentic presence. The collection was praised for its subtle elegance, versatility, and its ability to meet exacting aesthetic and functional standards.
Looking ahead
The successful collaboration between Duravit and Patricia Urquiola will continue with a new project for the Fuori Salone 2026, scheduled to launch in Milan on April 21, 2026.
